Welcome to Mendful, a not-for-profit initiative of Forks Disaster Relief, focused on reducing textile waste and creating sustainable solutions for our planet. Our mission is to provide sustainable options for textile waste reduction, while also creating skills and reducing the environmental impact of the fashion industry. At Mendful, we are committed to making a difference and we invite you to join us in our mission to end textile waste and give secondhand a second chance.
Join us on the first Wednesday of every month from 1 pm to 6 pm for our repair workshops! Our skilled volunteers will guide participants through the repair process, offering tips and tricks for fixing their own clothes and textiles. Bring in your repairable items and learn how to mend them yourself. So far, we have reclaimed over 50 items back to the shop floor and helped participants repair several of their own personal items. Don't miss out on this opportunity to learn a new skill and reduce textile waste!
Through Ginger's Closet & Disaster Relief's Mendful initiative, we are committed to reducing textile waste and the burden on our shared planet by salvaging damaged textiles and transforming them into new products for home, pets, and closet. Our non-profit organization is focused on sustainability, seeking to reclaim textiles and findings at the source within our community. Reclamation is the logical next step in our work to normalize re-use in secondhand purchasing. We plan to offer training in reclamation skills to Mendful makers, who will create one-of-a-kind pieces combining art and craft, such as garments and accessories, pet goods, home goods, and DIY kits to be commissioned by us and sold in our shop. We also hope to offer a line of reclaimed findings and fiber fill made from those textiles too damaged for visible re-use. By investing in our makers and providing them with the resources they need, we hope to increase sustainable shopping options and create dignified employment opportunities for our low-resource community.
